Jolly skeletons having a good time for this obi sold by antique store Modoribashi (they are on tumblr!).

This scene reminds me of those two tales I posted awhile ago with the skeletons friends and the drinking ghost - perfect for kaidan (ghost tales) summer fun :)

Rare design for this chilling summer hikizuri (long skirt kimono). From the pale lavender ground, blooms akikusa (autumn plants) while a skeleton emerges from the haze. The discarded and rotten itatoba (buddhist wooden grave tablets) seems to indicate that this scene takes place in a cemetery - or at least by a lonely grave.

This late summer/early autumn kimono is definitely a striking conversation piece and was probably worn by a Geisha.

The first picture, produced by Production I.G, is due to premiere in Japanese theatres on March 4, with the subsequent two films following on April 1 and May 13, respectively.
