[tanuki-kimono]

Lovely example of stage kimono: big patterns, lot of gold details, and textures (embroidery faking shibori!) are pretty tell-tale. I'd love to see the inners of this kimono to see the hakkake (hem lining) pattern as this kimono (more exactly a hikizuri) would have to be worn trailing.

Busy Times

Sorry for not posting in over a week, but we're now in convention crunch time! Anime North is taking place from May 23rd to 25th at the Toronto Congress Centre and I will once again be running Gallery Momiji, the art gallery and art show. This year's kimono display theme is "A Kimono For All Seasons" and features, you guessed it, kimono that can be worn either from October to May or June to September. We'll also be selling two kimono, with a portion of the proceeds going towards charity! They are:

This Taisho Period (1912 - 1926) geiko hikizuri! You'll be able to either bid on them in the auction or buy them right away if they have no bids on them for the Quick Sale price. Maiko Fukuyo 1910s

Maiko (apprentice geisha) Fukuyo, wearing a hikizuri (trailing kimono) with a beautiful suzume (sparrow) and yuki-mochi-zasa (snow-covered bamboo) pattern, which is a metaphor for a strong-willed spirit withstanding adversity.

Even though I rarely have time to put on my amazing kimono my love for the garment og Japan has not died.

I have designed some pins that I need help getting made, so I have launched a Kickstarter to raise the funds.

If we raise the money needed, I will reveal 4 more designs in traditional Japanese pigments and my dream is to have these made using the traditional method of cloisonne.
