What's In An Obi? Part 10
On The Sixth Day of Fun I present... a new obi! This is one of my favorites and I'm happy to be able to share it with you all ^^
Image courtesy of Abbey J. Owned By: Tama (多麻) in Gion Kobu Motif(s): Grapes and Grape Vine Like its Nishimura cousin, we're looking once again at a fruit obi! However, this one is a bit more arabesque and bold. But, like its fruit cousin, it's also a one-of-a-kind, yuzen dyed masterpiece! Grapes on a grape vine (葡萄) tend to be a rare motif for both kimono and obi as their seasonality is usually limited to the fall. However, in this case, Tama-sama chose to pair it with a spring kimono to bring out the pink in the April cherry blossom kanzashi. Wearing grapes in the spring changes the meaning of the motif from one of a bountiful autumn harvest to one of an abundant spring showing of new leaves and rebirth ^^

Prepping for my first exam
I prepared the fukuro obi with kairyou makura and I had to lay the whole setup before me and memorize it. The next step will be to put all this on in 15 minutes without ever using a mirror.
Good luck for me.
10 days to go.
(oh and the written exam of course)
Black Robe
Fulfilled a lifelong dream of being professionally dressed in formal kimono in Japan for an event!
I learned loads of kitsuke tips - definitely worth paying money for them to sew on the haneri and preparing the kasane’eri to see how the professionals do it!
Also very happy with how the coordinate turned out - everything came together really well! Worth the months of finding different pieces to go together - but actually quite a few of the main pieces (obi, obiage, kasane eri) were from my existing collection.
Congratulations on the successful completion of the event!!
