Note : Saigyō Hōshi 西行法師 (1118-1190) né Satō Norikiyo 佐藤義清 à Kyōto 京都, était issu d'une famille noble. Il prit le nom de plume de "Saigyō".
Poète volontiers qualifié d’érémitique (inja-bungaku 隠者文学 ), il passa de longues périodes de sa vie seul. Il est plus connu pour les nombreux voyages poétiques qu'il a effectué dans le Nord de Honshū 本州 qui allait inspirer Matsuo Bashō 松尾芭蕉 (1644-1694).
