GALACTIC PRINCESS

WHAT IS IT? Tragically, not a game where you get to play as a Galactic Princess. Instead, it's an action-strategy RPG where you play as the captain of a smuggler ship, on a mission to soar across the galaxy to rescue the aforementioned princess. A great fusion of Out of This World and FTL.

1. The Pace: Again, this may seem like a trivial point, but it's the primary thing that sets the other previously mentioned games and improves on them. If you've read my other stuff you know my opinions on FTL, and this looks like it's perfecting on what was already a good formula. How? By removing a pause button and letting you ram and board enemy ships.

2. The Imagination: Where as FTL scratched the Firefly itch, this scratches the Han Solo itch for me. Like I haven't even begun playing the game and I'm already prepared to shoot first. The alien races, the systems, the weapons, they all are diverse but not so crazy as you feel lost in them or feel that some of them deviate from their central aesthetic theme of pop-retro-futurism (jeez that's a mouthful, but it's really right on the nose.) There's something great about designing your ship to look like a hunk of junk but still have it be the fiercest ship in the stars.

3. The Promise: For the story of the game, the developers make a promise regarding their focus on tropes. To quote the steam page directly: "The game plays with common cliches and well known references, twisting them in an unexpected way. Using satire, and parody, Galactic Princess toys with Humor and Drama throughout it." I cannot have a blog called War of Tropes and not pick up this gem for closer inspection. Humor and parody, I expect, but a twist? That, my good friends, is why love stories. So I don't know about you, but I'm going to play this game, just to see if it delivers on that promise.

I'm still cautious, but boy does this look cool even if the game proper doesn't come together as much as I'd like. We'll see. This is really really cool, in any case.

Oyuncunun kurduğu ekip ve sıfırdan hazırladığı gemi ile maceralara atılarak, isminden de belli olabileceği gibi prensesi kurtarmaya gittiği Galactic Princess’de, kişinin hayal gücüyle sınırlı çeşitlilikte değişebilen hikâye detayları da, yapımı birçok kez kullanmaya uygun hale getiriyor.
