Samus Aran really is an icon and an inspiration to me, bc she's gone thru some of the most traumatic shit you can possibly imagine, and yet you can just walk up to her and be like "hey Samus I'm sorry, that was so fucked up, are you ok?" and she'd just quietly stare back at you like
scifi humans as masters of vocal mimickry
humans may not think of themself as masters of vocal mimickry
cuz to them it's normal so they see their abilities as average
but humans are actually pretty good at mimicking sounds
which an alien species in a scifi setting might notice very quickly
an ability in humans reminiscient of monsters from their own folklore
who lures people by pretending to be someone they know
or give of sounds of something innocent and or vulnerable
this might be potentially upsetting to this poor alien
to see made real in flesh the qualities of monsters
from their very own folklore and scary tales
some humans would ABSOLUTELY be very mean with this ability
i can imagine some Craig in college spooking his roomate
by pretending to be his mother or a kitten or a beast
using his human powers of vocal mimickry
and if that aliens go on to make horror movies per their dreams
they might take inspiration from their experiences in college
writing humans as the scary monsters in their horror movies
as one of the monsters at least
i can imagine aliens watching those movies and just
assume that it's made up and that humans don't actually
have that kinda ability at all and it's just movie magic
then become horrified upon learning that no they CAN do that
Craig probably didn't use ONLY vocal mimickry to be an ass
no he definitely made use of other human abilities too
like crushing a beer can against his head while grinning
or just following them ceaselessly without effort all day
all to harrass his roomate as a prank because it's funny
putting the fear of monsters in them
this ends up temporarily negatively affecting interspecies relations
as the human focused horror movies paint the humans as monsters
all because of some Craig who couldn't resist being an ass
i’ve been thinking of samus during her federation days…..
home sweet home! Sweet Orillium!
Creating Orillium is both a mess BUT a joy! There will be extensive work made on planet gravity, creation, lore, religion-you name it. Though it will take a lot of love and time for it to be remotely finished. Don’t worry though the ask blog for @galacticrunaways is still very much open for questions for the mites that live there! And yes they’ll get ref pages too.
However I have BIG BIG plans for this. Galactic Runaways not only is an ask blog for my sweet characters but a way to visually see the comic pages I will make for its upcoming ao3 series! It will take time and things may come slow but I promise I have not forgotten about them! If you ever wish to ask about anything don’t hesitate to ask me! I love answering questions.
Keep an eye out for upcoming updates and we’ll see you real soon!
The Original Shock Coil
So my me and my boyfriend (@shadowspirez) were discussing Sylux this morning, and one thing he said had me a tad confused. He mentioned Sylux having robot arms, and my first thought was he was talking about the nanomachine tendrils he wields in phase 1 of his final battle. Instead he was talking about his actual arms. I told him I was confused, and he brought up something about Sylux’s backstory cutscene.
When Sylux looks down at his armor and the camera begins to blur from the flashback into the present, you can see some noticeable discolorations to Sylux’s hands. The writing on this whole sequence is very odd, and it has caused a lot of confusion for many people, myself included. However, my boyfriend had an extremely interesting read on this scene. When he saw this sequence, he had assumed that, given Sylux’s shaky movements, disoriented state, and blurring vision, his arms were actually beginning to disintegrate due to the after effects of the Space Pirate weapon. This very quickly lead me to a very specific train of thought.
Is this Space Pirate Superweapon the same technology as the Shock Coil?
The two weapons have a passing similarity in their charge up sound in Metroid Prime 4, and they both feature a lengthy “barrel” for charging up energy for use in their respective attacks in Beyond. The Superweapon’s energy is blue, and while Sylux’s Shock Coil attacks are green in Beyond, they are actually blue in its original appearance in Metroid Prime Hunters. While the Shock Coil is more closed than the very open design of the Superweapon, the Shock Coil is designed to be more precise than the scorched earth style explosion of the Superweapon. Sylux is stated to be a marksman, so this may even be a modification on his own personal Shock Coil.
The implications for this are very interesting. The Shock Coil is stated to be a banned Federation technology, and with radiation that can still disintegrate troops in their armor even after the immediate effects, it wouldn’t be difficult to see why. It also adds an extra layer of cruelty to his use of such a weapon after he himself experienced the agony of its consequences. It also gives him a very unique personal connection to his weapon. He nearly died attempting to acquire it once, and in the end he did so, using it against its intended targets. It’s a permanent reminder of his past, built into his very silhouette. Depending on the order of operations here, the Shock Coil could have come first or the Superweapon. In the former scenario, the Space Pirate weapon is what ended up getting the whole Shock Coil project banned, with nobody wanting to touch it after what happened on that fateful day. The more interesting option is the latter, as the Federation saw the Space Pirate Superweapon and ended up creating their own handheld version of it in a clandestine manner. Sylux’s discovery of it in Federation custody then becomes vindication for him, proof that he WAS right to pursue the weapon’s capture. The power was one the Federation wanted, and with them siding against him, he’ll ensure this weapon remains his and not theirs. Lastly, the damage to Sylux’s body might help explain the rather substantial size discrepancy between Sylux in the flashback and in Metroid Prime 4. Assuming he was given cybernetics to make up for his limbs which were rendered unsalvageable by the Super Weapon, this might explain his increased size.
Once again, gotta thank my boyfriend on this one. He’s given me some awesome ideas to work with. Love ya hon!
