Yesterday, Sunday, December 2nd, the famous kpop boy band INFINITE performed at the Olympia in Paris; this is their first world tour. The people who had the opportunity to attend their concert got to hear their new song "Request", a song sponsored by Samsung.

When I first watched this MV a few weeks ago I was surprised to see that the whole clip is centered on the Samsung Galaxy series, with the Note 3 and the Gear Smartwatch, essentially. My first reaction was to say that this was not an MV but an ad for Samsung. After some research my first impression was confirmed. "Request" is indeed an ad for Samsung. The brand has chosen to recruit three kpop bands to endorse their products. Among these bands are CNBLUE, another very popular boy band and ICONA POP, an electronic pop duo band from Stockholm.

In the song "Request" we clearly see how the brand appropriates the seven young singers notoriety and makes it its own. Samsung clearly succeeded in choosing this band to endorse its products. By reading the comments below the video on YouTube, you can read reactions like: "this is more than an ad", "addictive", "CFs [commercial films] in Korea are great advertisers because I want everything in Korea, while here in the US the commercials don't make me want to buy things" etc.
