Clue was released on 13 December 1985.
Producer Debra Hill (who also co-wrote many films with John Carpenter) acquired the rights to the board game from Parker Brothers and announced that it would be developed for the screen in 1981.
John Landis wrote the screenplay and was set to direct until Jonathan Lynn was brought on to rewrite, and by the time he'd finished the script, Landis was off the project and Lynn directed.
Carrie Fisher was cast as Miss Scarlet but entered drug rehab and was replaced by Lesley Ann Warren. Leonard Rossiter was cast as Wadsworth but died suddenly from a heart condition (while waiting to perform on stage) and was replaced with Tim Curry.
Three different endings were filmed and for its initial release different theaters screened one of the three endings (subsequent releases included all three endings).
Clue received mixed reviews and broke even at the box office, but its reputation has improved over the years.
My Cousin Vinny (1992). Two New Yorkers accused of murder in rural Alabama while on their way back to college call in the help of one of their cousins, a loudmouth lawyer with no trial experience.
Re-watching this directly after Mr Saturday Night has me bumping up its score. What a great film! Charming, energetic, genuinely funny and yeah, that courtroom scene with Marisa Tomei lands every time. It gets said a lot, but they really don't make them like this anymore. 8/10.
