THEATRE REVIEW: Galoshins @maskandpuppet @laughandaguise #galoshins

With nothing more than an open hand and a mouth harmonica, puppeteer Shane Connolly captivates the small but perfectly formed gathering at the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre in Glasgow with a delightful “preamble” in which a confident right hand entices a shy left to wave to the audience and engage them in a clap-a-long before taking a well deserved bow in the spotlight.

It looks like Galoshins, the puppet play feating Shane Connolly and Alasdair (see more), will have a rare performance in Glasgow in November.

Alasdair is part of David Tibet’s Current 93 band for their upcoming album and tour. A single from the album is available now.

The Furrow Collective also have their third album, Fathoms, out in November, and a lead track is available.

A brief interview with the Roberts/Skuse/McGuinness trio performance in Edinburgh later this month.

This blog review captures just some of the wonder of the Sin-eater festival.

As darkness falls, Alasdair Roberts (see photo) plays the first big set of the festival to a packed marquee, his clear, high voice channelling dark tales from a point seemingly outside time. 

Beverley Puppet Festival next weekend features performances of Galoshins and The Horseman's Word.

Moving to West Yorkshire, Dark Northumbrian play the Re Con festival in September. The bill offers the tantalising prospect of Sun 0)))'s Stephen O'Malley bumping into Dark Northumbrian's Steve Malley and setting off a chain-reaction of mutual incomprehension. [Update, 7 September: we'll never know what might have transpired, as Dark Northumbrian have had to withdraw from the festival.]

2013 // A year in records...

We've had a great year here at ArmHq. Nice to see some of our releases popping up in end-of-year-lists, a few in The Herald, a few in Jockrock, others here and there.
