Elizabethan England. Melanie would, more than likely, be one of noble status, due to the fact that she was very pampered as a child and there were extra measures taken to ensure proper care for her. She would still possess the same personality that she has now, but there would be slight tweaks and adjustments done to better fit the times.

How do they usually dress? What do they wear to sleep? Do they wear jewelry?

Melanie has a very eclectic style of dress. It's a very obvious combination of Italian fasion vs. Korean fashion, and it often succeeds in making her stand out. Since it's cold at the moment, she's usually seen wearing oversized sweaters with brightly-coloured leggings, topped off with unique accessories of some sort.

To sleep, she usually wears a singlet/tank top/undershirt/whatever and shorts. She and her roommate keep things warm in their dormitory, so chill is never something to worry about.

As for jewelry...she loves it. Not necessarily diamonds or precious stones, but more so items that match her personality.

Is there anything about their appearance they wish they could change?

She only wishes she could be a bit taller; other than that, no.

How would they look as the opposite sex?

Height. She wouldn't be excessively tall, but there'd be an obvious change in the height. She'd still be a bit slight in stature and would prefer to keep longer hair, so possibly shoulder-length and still dyed. I see her with the same eyes, dramatic and wide, though a just a bit smaller than they are.

What do they smell like? Why (do they wear the scent or does it occur naturally)?

She naturally smells of coconut; or a scent that makes people around her think of coconut, along with natural pheremones.

Do they have an accurate mental picture of their appearance (how they see themselves versus how the world sees them)?

Yes, it's very accurate, looks-wise. Personality-wise, she might see herself a bit different. Where she sees herself as caring, she's been called annoying, etc., etc.
