gamcare, a charity helping people affected by gambling addiction, is funded by the gambling industry - what is your opinion on this? how else could they get funding?
According to Gamcare they about 60% funded by Gamebleaware, who are funded by gambling industries. Gamcare themselves have said that they want to change this, and have a conflicts of interest acknowledgement in this document.
I can’t imagine how this kind of funding wouldn’t limit how anti-gambling they are allowed to be, and Gambleaware are more about moderation than stopping completely. Realistically they will get funding from wherever they can, but ideally they would be funded by a tax imposed on gambling industries, as opposed to voluntary donations.
It is only right that the industry pays to mitigate the problems they cause, but that shouldn’t come with any influence over how a non-profit is run. I find it hard to believe that the industry doesn’t have any say over the work of Gamcare and Gambleaware when they are so dependent on industry ‘donations,’ likely given in part for tax reasons.

We say it every week, and we truly mean it when we say to "Gamble Responsibly". We want everyone to enjoy slots and casinos but like the ad says: "When the fun stops stop." #GambleResponsibly #GamCare #BeGambleAware #TabbyBet https://www.instagram.com/p/B8lVkc-A9ev/?igshid=1s0kleiyuaef1
The charity GamCare has again warned of a large increase in gambling addiction among women. The number of women affected by gambling addiction is currently growing faster in the UK than the number of men
