there’s something about how felix consistently begs for ted to save him when he’s on his deathbed. both in kindergarten 2 during the talisman ending, and in kindergarten 3 after he gets his eyes gouged out. both times, ted isn’t actually around (or alive) to hear his pleas, and yet…
when felix gets blinded, the first presence he feels, he assumes it’s ted, even if he already knows that his brother didn’t follow him to this school. the more logical assumption would be that his father has come to pick him up, but felix calls out for ted anyway. why is that, if he truly thinks ted is so simple and stupid and obtuse? he could call for his father, who loves him and favours him and pampers him. felix calling on ted makes even less sense in the talisman ending, where ted literally vanishes before his eyes.
when his life is on the line, felix thinks first of ted. maybe because deep down he knows ted is much smarter and more capable than felix and their father make him out to be (and perhaps even sharper than felix is). ted isn’t held back by incompetence, but by a kindness that felix takes full advantage of. he can taunt and prod all he wants, but ted’s the only one in his life that really loves him as family (unless there’s a mrs. huxley, but we haven’t heard a thing about her…). mr huxley isn’t that stubbornly biased towards felix, the boy just hasn’t screwed up badly enough for his father to disown him. felix may believe his father loves him, but i think he’s subconsciously aware of how fragile and conditional that supposed love is.
and so at the end of his tether, felix turns to ted. because ted is adept, ted is trustworthy. ted fears repercussion from their father, should he not protect his prized asset. but most of all, ted loves felix — so ted will help him now as he’s probably done time and time before. teddy will understand. teddy will save him.
