Virgilia's Final interview

Virgilia Baptiste was dressed in a sharp black suit that was very similar to her first interview outfit. The only difference between then and now was that all that had been blood red in color were now a dark, golden color. Her bleach blonde hair, instead of being held up by needles, was let down and flowed down to her shoulders. The recent victor had made her way to the interview stage, accompanied by the sound of thousands of screams and applause, and sat down on a plush chair next to fellow District 2 victors, Kardos and Kastos.

"Welcome back, Virgilia!" Kastos’ magnified voice rang out through the room and caused the screaming citizens to fall silent in anticipation. "It’s really great to have you back, the both of us were so excited when we found out you had won." Kastos began as he gave the girl a bright smile, officially being the first person to welcome her back with a fully sincere smile.

"Why, thank you, Kastos. It is an honor being in both of your presences again." Virgilia says as she tips her head in a slight bow to show respect for the past victors of her home district. The last time she had seen them was when she was being interviewed the first time. Now it was different. Now she, too, was a victor. 

"Tell us, what was going through your mind when you realized you had won the Hunger Games?" Kastos’ brother, Kardos, asked in a lower voice than his brother, his head resting on his hands as he stared at the girl, seemingly analyzing her. Virgilia noticed Kastos give his brother a little look out of the corner of his eye, but she chose to say nothing about it. Saying such a thing might provide comedic relief or some other form of happiness for the Capitol audience. But Virgilia would not be the one to provide such foolishness. 

"I was sad." The girl from 2 replied as she moved a stray piece of hair out of her face. The crowd mumbled in confusion and Kardos and Kastos looked to each other with confused expressions as well. They quickly recover, however, and turn towards the girl who, meanwhile, has been just sitting there staring at them with her arms crossed over her chest.

"What do you mean? Were you sad that you won? Did you not want to win?" The series of questions bombarded out of both Kardos and Kastos’ mouth as they turned toward Virgilia again. In response the girl only stared at them with her unforgiving eyes and then sighed and turned her bright brown eyes to the twins.

"I was sad because I had killed the one person that had proved themselves to be worthy of fighting me." She could tell by the silence that was still filling the room that the Capitol was not satisfied with her answer, at least not yet. "Tell me, " She said as she turned towards the twins again. "Did I ever tell either of you why it was that I volunteered for these games?" The twins shook their head and then almost immediately after someone in the crowd shouted out for Virgilia to tell them. Without breaking eye contact, she opened her mouth and told them.

"I volunteered for these games for two reasons and two reasons only: To test my own abilities, and to hopefully find an opponent worthy of testing my abilities against. I scoured the arena, meeting many tributes, none of which were worthy, except one. Lucina from District 8 proved to be the one who would challenge me like none had ever done before. Now that I’ve successfully won and earned my title as victor," She got up out of her chair and walked toward the tip of the stage and faced the audience that was watching her with their breath held in. "I can say, with absolute truth, thank you to all of you who helped make this a reality." With that said, Virgilia bowed to the Capitol audience, and let the screams and applause and all the noise caused by the audience after that envelop her.

The crowds continued to cheer and scream for her even after she sat back down with Kardos and Kastos, who were clapping as well. Looking at each other, the two brothers decided that the Interview was over and both got up together and got on either side of Virgilia. They each lifted one of her hands up and announced to the public. “Your newest victor, Virgilia Baptiste!” This caused more screams and shouts to echo through the room as Virgilia bowed once more and made her way off the stage, leaving the cheering crowd in her wake as she prepared for her journey back home to her kingdom. She could not wait for the day that she could go back to her rightful place as Head Peacekeeper of District 2.
