Reading the new Bob Lee Swagger novel, Game of Snipers by Stephen Hunter is like putting on a favorite pair of pants. You know the characters and what Swagger stands for - it’s so comfortable to ease into the story. “Swagger gets a visit from a mom whose Army son was killed by sniper fire and she wants him to find the sniper. Bob gets his old friend, FBI Special Agent Nick Memphis involved when he realizes the sniper has something big planned. And now they must figure out what and where and when. And hope that Swagger still has some of his sniper magic.” Bob is now 72 and showing some mortality. You’re never sure if he’s going to make it. Hunter gets technical about the science of long range shooting. Feels like that slows the story down a bit. Bob Lee Swagger has been around since ‘93 (Point of Impact) It’s nice to see him change and grow and become less a superhero and more human. This book can be read as a stand-alone, but you’ll want to read all of Swagger’s story. Fans of Reacher would love Swagger. If you like a little summer action, you’ll want to add this to your reading list.
