I thought of @pickuppoettree when I was teaching poetry workshops last year with @greenearthpoetscafe. Actually in 2016 I created a poetry board game in which I’m currently developing as well. I remember cutting up the cardboard paper and creating the design with @jace_the_first at my moms crib. The board game is even more interactive and a definite learning tool. But last year around March when I visited Maryland and went to a thrift shop, I saw a Medw Netchr card game that inspired “Pick-Up Poet Tree” and I instantly knew like when I get back to NY, I’m playing a new poetry game with the young adults at the workshop. So I bought some index cards and wrote examples of metaphors, simile, alliteration, rhyme, alliteration, repetition, personification, oxymoron and onomatopoeia and when we played it, the youth were very competitive and wanted to go round after round to get a chance to win. I was a little insecure about the game being on index cards but after playing it with them, they never minded it and was like, they can’t wait to play it again. And now I’m happy to see how much the game is growing.
