Do any of the pirates have family? Do any of them dream of starting a family sometime?
Some of them do have existing family, but are either disowned or otherwise estranged. Nenshu was disowned when his parents heard about a Kirin that looked like him setting fire to ships. Ansho might have family somewhere on the archipelago, but she’s not quite sure where they are now. Terumi and Uzu are both orphans, and any siblings they had were lost to the raid that claimed their village, or the aftermath of illness that swept through it afterward (as far as they know, anyway). Ganji, no one on the crew knows and he won’t tell (a younger sister he sends money and valuables to as often as he can). Yoru’s outlived all of his, with perhaps the exception of extended family -children of children of siblings. Ishizu claims he doesn’t have family. Koto does have family still, but they moved out of Neighpon to a more Western location at the desires of her mother.
There was once a time when Terumi wanted to settle down and have a family, but with her track record as it is now, she doesn’t want to bring any kojirin into such a dangerous life and environment. She’s seen too many babies stuffed into the holds of slave ships bound for foreign waters, and doesn’t want to risk that for any she might have borne.Uzurashi doesn’t like children, still carrying a pretty stiff grudge from the abuse he suffered when he was young. He might have something for Terumi but he’s a clam about it.Ansho considers herself past marriageable age, and past childbearing age, as well. And given where she is now and what subtype she is, she also wouldn’t want to bring any young’uns into the world, not when she knows about the black market that tries to get hold of Hoseki Kirin. So she mothers the crew and, when they take down a slave ship, she takes care of those they rescue until they can be returned to port.Yoru, he has no interest in it. That and he’s not entirely sure he even could start a family, with his condition. Not like he can ask Chihana, either. She wouldn’t know.Nenshumo’s too young and immature to really give a pinfeather about starting a family. xD Maybe one day he’ll change his mind, but he’s such a wild card right now that no one thinks it’d ever happen.Ganji and Ishizu keep those sorts of desires pretty close to the vest. There’s been a couple of times they thought about retiring and going to settle down, but at the same time, the Navy knows their faces.Koto, she’s been known to daydream about it when she’s not busy with other ship work. She’s not an active fighter on the boarding parties, either, only coming in once the prey ship has been subdued in order to translate between the two crews. She could hypothetically retire and be given clemency if she gave up information on the pirates, and that would free her up to start a family of her own. That’s a big hypothetical for her, though.
