i dont know if you have any experience with electric fences but i was wondering if you or your followers could give me some advice or advice. I have a 3yo husky mix who can jump our front fence (4ft) if she wanted to or dig under our back fence (6ft) at the new house we're moving to. I was wondering if my best option was installing an invisible fence. She is very sensitive but has a high prey drive. I don't want to buy it if its a bad idea because they are so expensive but I want her to be safe.
I actually don’t like electric fences.
I also don’t like leaving a dog outside unsupervised. I would say the majority of dogs that dig out of fences were left unsupervised for longer than an hour. This is too long, imo. My dog is unsupervised for less than a minute while outside, if ever. Dogs can get into way too much trouble if not properly secured, including digging out of fences. Even if you solved the digging problem by partially burying the fence and pouring cement into the ground, you would still have to deal with other naughtiness she may get up to.
If I’m wrong and she’s just really fast about digging out, feel free to correct me.
I prefer a safe tether system before I’d use an electric fence, as electric fences prevent your dog from coming back (they usually shock the dog upon exit and entry, meaning if your dog blows through the initial shock while over threshold and comes back, your dog gets shocked for returning) and once a dog learns to blow through the boundary good luck ever keeping it inside of said boundary ever again. Then you will have spent all that money and still have a dog that escapes.
IMO- your best option is to stop leaving her outside unsupervised or, barring that, to look into a secure and safe tethering system.
