🍂🍃🍂”Spring, my dear, really. It’s okay. You can take your time. I’m sorry. I’ll quit nagging you. There are still lots of books to be read and fires to light; stews to make and steamy beverages and hot baths to enjoy. I’m not ready for your frenzied pace anyway. Like the tulips and the lilies and the sun-shy seedlings, I need to nestle and hibernate a bit longer. Actually, my garden hysteria is still relatively quiet. I remain sated with my required minimal daily dose of green that I find at the florist or grocer. 📚🌳📚So my little #housetour 🙋‍♀️continues, since some of you wanted to see my office. I tidied it up especially for you guys😉. It has a beautiful coved ceiling which I do really love. Let me know if you guys want stills and I’ll take some. The windows face south and east, so I have great morning light. Much better upstairs than down, I might add. Not fancy, but comfortable and functional, especially when I get cold and put a heating pad in my chair😆. I am lusting after a new desktop computer, which will give me more room on the desk surface, give me faster and better digital storage, and basically solve every problem I and the world have right now. 🎅🏻🌳🤶🏼 The lemon cypress are having a family reunion. ..togetherness of course being an essential part of the holiday zeitgeist. And my lemony topiaries are nothing if not traditional... even conventional in their own very distinctive evergreen way. It’s an interesting looking congregation of cousins and siblings when they come together. Some tall, others squatty. Some tall and thin and elegant, others a bit more buxom and broad...handsomely healthy and vigorous. Their personalities are as unique as their form, yet like most families they commune in their own way. And usually their assemblage is at the very least, becoming...and at most, downright magical. Some family members , of course, are fussier and more high maintenance than others, highly temperamental and histrionic. The cause of much eye-rolling by the rest of the clan. But all in all, not a contentious bunch, with far more in common than different. Families are like that, aren’t they? Still, it’s helpful to invite others occasionally to ease tensions and acknowledge the beauty of their all gathering together. Nandina berries can always be relied on for such a contribution. Such good friends these two...the #nandina and the #lemoncypress are. 🍂🦃🍂 I am not a collector. (...okay maybe a little bit of topiary...😉). My 1935 house, with relatively small living spaces and skimpy storage...prevents it even if I were so inclined. (...Okay, garden boots may be another digression...😜)....BUT, I am thinking of making an exception and starting a small collection of beautiful, hand thrown terra-cotta pots from @whiteflowerfarm described thusly: “These extraordinary pots are thrown by hand, then fired for hours in wood-burning kilns that give them a soft and variable shade of tan, which changes with the light and the pots' contents. Shapes are drawn from Classical-era containers that were then, and are now, common household items in Crete. They provide a look that is both traditional and informal, and we've given them prominent positions throughout our gardens and in our home.” They come in a variety of shapes and sizes...the one I I am placing on the mantle here with the small cypress tree was a gift I received last week. I want an assortment of sizes and shapes now of these gorgeous #terracotta vessels to plant my assortment (dare I say collection?!?) of my beloved little olive trees next summer. They were just made for one another don’t you think? The subtle sun-washed coloration of each? Just 4 or 5 will suffice. @whiteflowerfarm was the first place I ordered plants from when I was a newbie gardener over 25 years ago. Sentiment + handcrafted beauty + olive trees makes me swoon.
