Celebratory outfit perfect for New Year season, featuring an antique kimono depicting shishi (lions) on a bridge - maybe a reference to auspicious play Shakkyô. The beautiful pines nicely frame the main motif, and the temari balls add some whimsy.
Kimono is paired with a romantic obi showing yuki-mochi (snow covered) gosho-guruma (ox cart) and late winter/early spring plants (ume/plum blossom, kiku/chrysanthemum, nandina/heavenly bamboo, suisen/daffodil).
Fukusa, or gift cover of blue silk satin depicting Nandina with snow and two small birds. 18th century.

This gateway in Cambridge, UK, was flanked by impressive specimens of Nandina domestica (heavenly bamboo, Chinese sacred bamboo, sacred bamboo) covered with berries. An upright, elegant evergreen shrub with a bamboo-like habit can reach 2m in height. Plants thrive in a moist but well-drained soil in a sheltered position with full sun.

Nandina or Heavenly Bamboo (Nandina domestica) producing winter berries for the birds along Regent's Canal.
This was taken with the setting sun on one side and inadvertently under-exposed by 2-1/3 stops. Brightening up in post brought about noise level of some 14 that had need to be reduced.
