Hi there was wondering if you have examples of sorts on what sounds the creatures from your series sound like? For example the Garjen do they perhaps sound dragon like or maybe something more specific like the sounds a Ostritch Horse makes from Avatar?
Yes, so garjen have a lot of vocalizations. Their normal social vocalizations are pretty low and grumbly, sort of like a crocodile or cassowary (the first part of this video is what I imagine). They don't tend to open their beaks when vocalizing at each other or at their human handlers unless they're being aggressive, instead expanding their throats like pigeons. When they do open their mouths to vocalize, they sound more like huge parrots and get more squawky. They tend to only make open-mouthed vocalizations when distressed or aggressive, and combined with a raised frill this makes quite a sight. They will also make guttural hissing noises as threats. After or during a stressful interaction or event, they will click their beaks, sometimes just once or twice or sometimes more rapid-fire. Garlings (baby garjen) make something kinda like this sound (baby gator) but a little more rapid and with more fluctuation in tone. A distressed garling will scream like nobody's business.
Roden are mustelids, so I imagine they make similar noises to badgers or wolverines, but I have the most hands-on experience with ferrets so I picture them making this noise but deeper when they're excited or playful. An angry rodi would make noises like these badgers (warning for very angry badger noises). Roden will also bark and howl. Barking sounds kinda like this but shorter and more forceful, and howling sounds like coyotes but tonally starts high and ends low. I always picture the tornado sirens in my hometown when imagining direrodi howls. I tried to get the feel of it in this animation I made but I'll never be totally happy with it.
As for wegs, they sound just like lil piggies!
