HEY IM JUMPING ON THE BANDWAGON
@alynissia
Twice as bright, half as long
Garlinde was a character who from the very beginning was made to have a short time left to live. There wasn’t any exact time period but I had imagined it to be around one year and regardless of how attached I became to her I would still go through with the original plan. From November 1st of 2016 to October 13th 2017 she has been with, more or less, the same group of people in game and as I grew closer to Garlinde so did the rest of the group which only made her death all the more gut wrenching and I couldn’t help but cry when it all sank in.
Garlinde lived in a catch-22 sort of situation, early in her life she delved so deep into the fel that she used it to survive day-to-day. The fel had damaged her body to the point where the only way to actual keep it going was by using drain life, if she did not do this she would begin to shake and grow ill much like how the nightfallen work however each time she did use drain life she would ultimately become more and more dependent on the fel.
Garlinde’s death was brought about after her and her friends were fighting against the major antagonists of the event chain I had been running in my guild, fighting a pair of demons in the Twisting Nether she was able to tap into the fel-energies flowing through it to conjure a fel-firestorm to finish off the remaining demon before her and her friends were slain. Upon taking a portal back to where they had been before getting dragged into the Twisting Nether Garlinde’s body was beginning to fail as the energy required to cast such a spell pushed her over the edge. She knew her life was growing ever shorter in the previous days, and while she hoped she would have lived longer she wanted to burn out rather than fade away.
She collapsed not long after returning to Azeroth, she died surrounded by her closest friends whom she had spent nearly the last year with.
It upsets me that Garlinde is dead now but I am glad that I was able to play her out and having lovely people to RP her with. The choice to have her live on borrowed time is not one that I regret though, making characters to RP on WoW has always been somewhat of a series of experiments. She’s not a character I will forget soon and I’m glad she was received so well by those that got to play with her.
The only OC of mine that i’ve made cry today is myself
