Few bits of art from my SU AU that follows Black Diamond & Green Diamond or; Ebony & Flora.

Green diamond (she/her) was made after Pink's shattering, she is meant to look into & observe organic life for the Gempire to copy & learn from. Black diamond (it/its) was formed during the same time. she's meant to be an archivist/historian, to look back into the past & see what gems can bring back into use to become more sustainable. Abalone is ebony's pearl.

Melonite is a garnet from black diamonds Court. She's a translator, deciphering old gem text.

Variscite is based off an amy & Peri fusion posted by a cruniverse member that got popular on Reddit, she is not part of the AU.

The Power to Revolutionize!

I adopted Prince Sapphire from @twiniverse, and designed Rose Ruby and Promise Garnet myself!

Prince Sapphire once was a typical sapphire--Gem aristocracy, but more 'princess' than prince. However, a chance encounter with a rebel gem meant that she found the power to liberate herself from what Homeworld wanted her to be: thus, she became Prince Sapphire. Fleeing to Earth, where a rebel gem stood a chance of fighting back, she met Rose Ruby.

Rose Ruby's story was the opposite of Prince Sapphire's; she was a common ruby, until she caught the attention of the higher up gem she was assigned to, who decided to 'liberate' her from her guard work by making her a pretty object of their attention. This was to be a sign of their status and power; they didn't need protection, so they made their guard akin to a pearl. Rose Ruby didn't know what to do, so she feel into the demure, subservient role. However, she met Prince Sapphire when her owner came to Earth, and the two instantly felt a connection.

Prince Sapphire challenged Rose Ruby's owner to a duel for her hand, which Prince Sapphire won. However, after the two escaped, Rose Ruby was so entrenched in her role that she decided to serve Prince Sapphire, to the latter's discomfort. She promised Rose Ruby that one day, the two of them would be able to exist side by side as equals. However, her former owner kept sending mercenaries after the two of them to retrieve Rose Ruby. It was in a battle with some of these mercenaries that Rose Ruby realized Prince Sapphire would be shattered if she didn't act, and in liberating herself to come to Prince Sapphire's aid, the two fused and became Promise Garnet, who singlehandedly fought off all the mercenaries, and the fusion escaped to a world without pre-made paths, where they could just be together.

The shading I did was new and what not but I think I like flat colours better because I'm not experienced with rendering yet 😅

As for the line art, it is completely my style, really polished and heavy with the line weight, so I thought it'd be nice to display what I usually draw when making "polished" art

I was going to draw her in my sketchy style but then I looked at my references for her and realized the lines were pretty nice and neat so I switched it up :3

And like for the shading I tried mixing airbrush shading and no blend shading together and I think I did ok

This was also a good practice for upcoming art fight!! But this took like 6 hours, damn, way longer than my usual 40 minutes, but makes sense, I had to get the design down and then colour accordingly 😩😩 so fun tho I'd do it all over again (and will for art fight)

Guys, I can't believe I used to dog on kids in cringe comps when my art looked like this 💀

Anyways, time for a story time!

Y'know when I was younger, I used to be an avid enjoyer of cringecomps, especially art ones. I would think about how horrible these kids' animations and drawings were as if I didn't draw on the same skill level, if not even worse than they did (a throwing stones in glass houses kind of situation) now that I think about it partaking in that made me the most cringe of all, I was such a hater and not in a good way, it's cringe to be a hater. Nowadays, I don't watch cringecomps, and I don't go around judging other artists, I just try to focus on myself, I'm glad cringecomps aren't really a thing anymore
