Mugshot Monday - “Persimmon/Tenmoku Prototype #1” Mug with Wonderland Espresso Blend by Peace Coffee
Last week, I received a very cool email from Garth Johnson from the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York telling me I was the first person to tweet the hashtag #mugshotmonday on Twitter.
He also asked if he could interview me about my Mugshot Monday project which sounded fun to me.
Now, I don’t usually do interviews —because honestly nobody really makes that kind of request, but check this out because it gets really cool.
Garth’s museum is building a cafe and they plan to stock it with unique ceramic mugs made by lots of different artists for serving up coffee, and tea. He was thinking about how to integrate Mugshot Monday into the new cafe to feature all of those amazing coffee mugs. I love that!
The 20 minute interview is posted to Everson Museum’s Instagram channel (@eversonmuseum), so please go have a listen if you need a nice break from these crazy times.

Garth and I talked about when I first started making these Mugshot Monday posts, but then we got talking about all of the amazing ceramic artists who helped make the #MugshotMonday hashtag into something amazing. There are hundreds of amazing mugs and cups posted each week. 🤩
We also talked about Minnesota potters Jeff Oestreich, Linda Christianson (@lindachristiansonpottery), and Matthew Krousey (@mkrouseyceramics). That led to talking about how the annual St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour will be “virtual” this year because of the pandemic.
I’m bummed I’ll miss seeing other ceramic artists like Melissa Weiss (@melissaweisspottery) and Kip O’Krongly (@kipokrongly), but it makes a lot of sense. I’m looking forward to logging on and participating virtually. You should, too!

For today’s Mugshot Monday, I chose a mug prototype of mine that didn’t turn out at all like I expected, but it makes me smile nonetheless.
If failing is learning, then I learned a lot making this particular mug: ☑️ The Persimmon/Tenmoku glaze combo is gorgeous but there is waaaaaaay too much of it ☑️ Hence, I got some practice grinding down the “spill-over” glaze on the bottom of the mug
☑️ The handle should have been bigger for a comfy 2 finger handle But this mug holds coffee so I’m using it! And honestly it makes me happy knowing I’m progressing as I learn how to make mugs. Cheers!
Thanks to Garth for reaching out to me and I loved talking with you! I hope one day to go see Everson Museum’s new cafe on a Monday so I can pick one of their mugs to post my Mugshot Monday. 😀
