Akisneem (centre) recently lost her 16 year old grandson because the hospital that could save his life was 3 hours drive away. Her family only owns bicycles. Young people from communities like hers often migrate to the big cities in search of manual labour. The 48 hour window the government of Ghana left before the lockdown of Accra, Tema and Kumasi took effect created opportunity for thousands to head back to vulnerable communities where Covid19 will be much harder to detect and treat, thus endangering the lives of already very vulnerable people. Tamale as at yesterday had recorded ten cases and Wa had recorded a case. Short of a miracle, these numbers are bound to balloon because in these communities where all people have is each other, social distancing feels alien. The impact of Covid19 on any nation is a reflection of the quality of leadership they have. The more indecisive they are, the more lives they will lose.
