[PIRACY] Terminus Increasingly Harassed By Nemean Pirates: A Report
via Terminus Eye An uptick in piracy has begun to make commerce and travel more hazardous in the Terminus Systems, specifically in the Nemean Abyss’ neighbouring clusters. Monthly reports from navies protecting the worlds of Erinle, Talis Fia, Garvug, Watson, Triginta Petra, Korlus, and even Illium all report that traders are being struck more frequently, with patrols encountering more pirates with each engagement. Those who have been arrested alive increasingly hail from the Nemean Abyss cluster. What lies behind this trend? Director T’ivi of the Illium Defence Directorate believes, with good confidence, that it is the Maw’s Dominated. “The Red Maw’s fiefdom absorbs free elements into its own forces and pushes out those who found the terms of working as one of the Dominated too prohibitive for their liking,” she explained at a meeting with the Board of Governors, of which select excerpts (such as this quote) have been released to the public. “The subsequent spillover is now falling on us.” Business has also been forced to react to the new trend. Insurance rates have soared, routes have been re-drawn via Zahel Sea to Omega and ships now form up into convoys and depart together. Some still continue to brave the worsened odds, however, like Umbral Lines, which offers its services to the deep Abyss region. “The Maw’s rejects are temporary,” the company’s recent statement declared. “Umbral Lines will stay, with necessary precautions, to its routes and schedules. We will not abandon the Benthic, Hadal and Abyssal.” Director T’ivi spoke with a similar tone to the Board of Directors. “This phenomenon will pass with time, through attrition towards the recently arrived pirates. They will be shot or they will wise up and leave for easier hunting grounds, until the rate of piracy reaches its former levels. In the meanwhile, the Defence Directorate will allocate more escorts and patrols to the affected areas.” Whether all share her confidence has yet to be determined.
