1) How did you choose your name?

i came up w carson in 2015 when i was looking up names for my OC, axel, since i was looking for car-pun names and names from the 80s and i guess i saw the name carson in some list and it stuck w me and i got called it in a dream and dwelled on it for a bit, and then started having ppl call me it soon after... and it became my legal name last september! :~)

8) How would you explain your gender identity to others?

i usually just tell people im a guy rather than a demiguy... which simplifies things aha... when i do explain the demiguy thing, i explain it as a percentage like “im like... 85% a guy, 15% who knows???” as a basis but it’s a lil more complicated than that, but i unfortunately cant rly put it into words. i’ve never had to explain the concept of being trans tho, so thank god

9) How did you come out? If you didn’t come out, why do you stay in the closet? Or what happened when you were outed?

this is about coming out to ppl irl... online and to close friends was just “hey im trans pls refer to me as a guy now thx”.... anyway, as many people say, coming out is a process, so it kinda went like this:

i was “out” after graduating high school in 2014... meaning to certain people i’d meet in college i would come out to them/give them my tungle URL where my pronouns were visible -- they were told to keep it on the downlow at the time

started going by carson in early/mid 2015 and came out to some more people to help the process of getting called by another name to see if i liked it (obv i did lmao)

summer 2015 my mom found out i was trans and questioned me about it

also summer 2015, i applied to live on an all-male floor in one of the dorms and got accepted (the reslife staff was awesome at my school tbh) and late summer i emailed all my upcoming teachers and professors my preferred name and pronouns. all of them were p chill (i dropped out like a month at most so WOOPSIES)

idk what point this was but i came out more publicly on facebook so at that point i was out to everyone i had ever interacted with, save my extended family and my coworkers at the time (who sorta knew i think but still referred to me w my dead name and she/her pronouns -- it was better to not try to correct them cuz of a very openly LGBT-phobic manager)

fast forward to about a year ago where i started working at my current job and my manager asked me if i had preferred pronouns.. i later learned she wasnt supposed to ask me this due to HR concerns but honestly thank god she did because i was deathly afraid of coming out after my last work experiences lmao. my coworkers now tbh are some of the most supportive people regarding my transition :’-)

at this point, the only people im not out to are my dad & his side of the family... i think my dad knows but i dont want to tell him, tho im probably safe to do so now that i have my car in my name... after how my mom’s parents reacted to me being trans tho i dont rly want to come out to my extended family on my dad’s side since they’re all religious 

but.. yeah, thankfully, overall, coming out has been a relatively smooth and nearly painless process. im very, very lucky in that regard, so i dont rly have a lot of advice for coming out in a less welcoming situation
