★ Not a soul at Hogwarts would believe that for the first fourteen years of his existence, apprehension and indecision plagued Gaspard Shingleton’s life. He heeded his mother’s words with ultimate reverence and never strayed too far from the path, perpetually choosing the safety of comfort above all else. Lydia Goshawk put forth no effort to instill fear in her only son, of course, but it happened regardless. Likely, his carefulness came from avoiding the same fates as his parents: becoming a parent before graduating from uni and/or dying accidentally due to an angry and particularly hungry Chinese Fireball dragon. Gaspard’s wariness for life all changed on the night of his fourteenth birthday, though, when he and his cousin Pandora visited a seer who revealed a shocking vision: that while grey hair would cover his head sooner than most, an early death would claim him. No matter how many times his cousin called the reading rubbish, he firmly believed he would die young. This belief changed his entire outlook on the world, and for the first time ever, Gaspard Shingleton discovered a zest for life.
★ These days, Gaspard can be spotted strutting around Hogwarts donning colorful sunglasses most likely knicked from someone else. His intelligence does not boast, but his proclivity for innovation is not something to be ignored. Despite reporting from The Daily Prophet, the concept of a self-stirring cauldron came last year when Gaspard wanted to do anything but his potions homework; in fact, he switched his degree due to boredom with the subject. Sure, having the extra money from selling his invention came in handy when buying books this year, but his priorities shifted far beyond becoming a potioneer. Nowadays, Gaspard can be found pursuing his new interest of Muggle Sudies, playing chaser for Hufflepuff’s quidditch team, or begging Professor Dumbledore to let Hogwarts perform Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night (Gaspard as Sir Toby Belch, obviously).
