WEEK 6 GALLERY VISIT THE SCIENCE MUSEUM ALEC SOTH
I have been a fan of Alec Soth’s work for a long time and this being his first major UK show it was bound to be an incredible body of work. the exhibition contained his series’ Mississippi (2004), Niagara (2006), Broken Manual (2010) and Songbook (2014). Soth’s work is incredibly relatable to the Personal Vision module as his work focuses all around The Everyday. His series’ are incredible because, unlike many other photographers, his pieces of work although individually beautiful, when put together tell incredible stories. Soth is one of the modern geniuses of photo stories. Soth adores vulnerability and you can see this through every subject within his images, even his landscapes appear vulnerable. Gathered Leaves, the name of this exhibition, enhances this vulnerability even more with leaves being his images and them being so fragile yet beautiful and also everywhere. Every detail of his work and exhibition screams ‘everyday’ but in the most captivating way.
