You don't really have to tip, but I always do because it's just super nice? Idk, I've always lived in America so it's not super weird to me
idk its really really strange cuz people dont even expect a tip and ive lived in 4 asian countries and in the UK too, you just pay the price on the board, and smile and leave... like in a cafe or a sandwich shop or fast food place or anything like I take back all the change in places with a counter service. its only with sit-down table service that we tip, and even then if the service charge has been added to your bill, you dont have to at all! I think its cuz workers here are paid MUCH more, like my flatmate last year was working at a bar min. wage and was making about 300-400 pounds a week, which is like about $450-$600.... and that’s quite a LOT of money to be quite fair for a min. wage worker. She didn’t get much in tips, even though she did get them for food orders and stuff.
I just feel like I shouldnt be obligated to fork up more money than the face value, like it would be MUCH easier if the service tax was already added to the bill?? like I know that UK/Asian Starbucks is def more expensive than US Starbucks cuz there is some sort of tax added. I’d rather pay the price on the board than feel like I’ve “lost” money by tipping for alright coffee in a paper cup you know...
