I think there's something to be said for the fact that both Simon and Marcy both try hanging around one of their loved ones, even when said person doesn't want to see them (and, yes, I know Marceline is referring to the fact that Bubblegum was never around or present enough when the two of them were dating, but since she also says it in present tense, I'm lead to believe that Marcy has tried to reconnect with her since then).

Marceline actively tries to get away from Ice King, and actively tells him not to be around her. And I can assume Bubblegum had a similar reaction (though probably more subtle and backhanded) when Marcy tried to reconnect with her. Nevertheless, the two of them clearly still desperately want to be in lives of the people who told them to go away.

I think it's something along the lines of "I've lost so much in my life, and I don't know what I'd do if I truly lost you".

Like father, like daughter, I suppose.
