> Handmaid: encounter a stranger
> You’re peacefully gutting a small animal, one of several to unfortunately fall prey to your sudden need to fill your stomach, when you hear something nearby, a sound deeply out of place here in the forest: sobbing. Carrying your work, you go to investigate. Another troll might be able to tell you where you are, what timeline this is -- or they might be a threat that you should probably take care of soon.
> As soon as you find her, you know she’s not a threat, at least not right now. The other troll is curled up in the fetal position, sobbing into her hands, moaning “no” ... You recognize those horns, but your timeline’s Dolorosa isn’t nearly so big, or so flowery. Further confirmation, if any were needed, that you are far from “home.” Let’s see what information you can get out of her.
> She looks up with dead eyes, a haunted face.
“Not in this timeline. Do you know where we are? Can you tell me about events here?”
“No. How did I get here? Where’s Silaas?”
> You can tell from her voice that she’s utterly bewildered; her voice, and the way she stares around the forest like she expects it to dissolve into a more familiar scene at any moment.
“I don’t know. I don’t know a Silaas. Are you sure you don’t -- ”
> She buries her face in her arms again, once more in tears, and you give up on questioning her. But poking out from one of her pockets is a silver device, similar to but also considerably different from the one you carry. You pluck it away telekinetically, though in her current state, you don’t think she’d notice if you climbed up her body and started picking the flowers on her horns. Maybe you can find some answers here -- or at least figure out who can give them to you.
