i might've just found the wrong article, but there's an article on theguardian titled "New AI can guess whether you're gay or straight from a photograph" and from a skim of it, it looks like this GayI thing is the more horrifying option.. hoo boy. ~🍂

I got a link and took a look, and... it appears that there might be some very alarming developments, but there are a couple of blind spots that might mean it’s not the worst case?

Worst case: It noted distinctions in facial structure that indicated higher probability of gay. That could lead to more eugenics research, as well as being able to pick a not-insignificant number of us out of a crowd.

Moderating factors: The dataset was dating profile pictures - which are frequently artfully posed, made up, and touched up and that’s frankly something I would expect gay people to do more often. Further, we’re actively trying to project Maximum Gay Style in dating profile pics. These factors easily explain away the styling and background differences it noted, and may explain the facial differences. (For example, “thin dude who tries to look young and diminutive” is common enough in our culture to have a word for it, but unheard of in straightland.)

Conclusion: Jury’s still out. It’s definitely saying we’re more stylish, and may be picking up biometric differences but may simply be picking up cultural differences.
