Exactly two years ago on April 9th, 2015 I was texting out a lame excuse to my boyfriend on why I couldn’t see him that weekend. It wasn’t the first time I’d done it, but it was the last.

April 9th, 2015 is the day I realized I was a lesbian.

Before that day I’d considered myself bisexual, but when when I looked around and realized I didn’t actually feel any attraction for any guy around me, including my boyfriend, and spent way too much time on The Gay Woman Channel, it got the ball rolling.

When I was with him, I felt so fake. I always felt like I was putting on a persona whenever I met him at his house, and it took me a long time to realize why I felt so stifled when we got along so well.

It’s been two years now and boy have things changed for me. I’m the most recognizable lesbian at my school, almost all of my friends are queer, and I’m pretty sure I have kissed more than 20 girls. I’m out to my sisters now, despite how long it took for them to finally accept that I wasn’t going through a weird phase

And as much as a bipolar stressed out high schooler can be, I’m happy

A year ago today, I came out for the first time.

Wow. I can't believe it's been a year since I finally said those words out loud to someone other than myself.

Thanks to Lauren and Alaina for being the two people I was strong enough to tell first.

I'm gay and I'm so proud to be who I am today.
