BIG THINGS POPPIN’ THIS WEEKEND...
Once again, I dawdle. Most humbly apologies, but what with all the shenanigans and shade these days, it can be hard to come up for air long enough to get anything done! I do swear. So, let's dive right in, shall we, darlings...
This weekend kicks off by stepping up this sleeper 2018 election season with two community events. It all starts in Dededo with Senator Michael San Nicolas' Friday night throwdown in his bid for Congress with a community rally that promises to be a fantastic time for the whole family. And it’s all free!
San Nicolas, who is often the lone voice in the legislature demanding responsibility from the clowns in the big top, has angered many in his career as a voice for responsible government. After all...what temerity...expecting greedy lawmakers to actually stop being - greedy, lazy lawmakers.
Anyway, he now he wants to bring that staunch advocacy to D.C. as Guam's delegate. It will be a tough fight to loosen the fossilized deathgrip the MZB mob has on that office. We do wish him well in his race.
Meantime...the wizened eyebrows of this guamblogger perched high upon learning about the maverick senator's choice for his campaign treasurer: Shelly Calvo, sister-in-law of the current governor, and one of the few bright lights in the Calvo clan, along with her husband Paul, who, after 8 years of grief for the clan looks to be coming out at the end of the tunnel unscathed and in tact. Nice.
The island's still "It" couple has Barrigada Heights veritably dizzy with gossip and pleased as pink champagne punch to have the chic duo squeeze into the 'hood on the hill. And, of course, all the Doñas are just dying to get a peek at their new digs; but that's a whole other story for Gb another day, if I can remember, between mimosas. But again, I digress..."mustn't let myself get distracted,"nai.
His bold choice to bring Ms. Calvo on board already seems to be paying off in the fight ahead.
From the looks of the entertainment line up this Friday in Lencho Park, Ms. Calvo's connection to smart talent and experience developing social engagement environments will deliver big with an impressive lineup.
JMartin fans know the talented singer for his distinct falsetto and dynamic performance style. He lights the stage up along with local favorites Kids from Chu'uk, and a fresh new group to Gb ears, Loyal Roots. These kids defy the negative stereotypes of our FSM cousins. Come out and show some pride, support and love our shared island values!
And I said this was family-friendly...The amazing dance troup Stargazers will make a dazzling appearance, and we are so sure senator Mike's cutey pie daughter Katelyn, 6, who dances with the group had nothing to do with them getting the gig. Wink, wink.
And there is even more happening but I am too old to remember all that stuff. Just go and have fun! Be responsible, Guam!
Oh...and let’s not forget food enough for the whole community! All this free and open to the public on what is expected to be another fabulous Friday in paradis. What better time to mix and mingle with supporters, uncommitted voters, family and friends.
All the politicians and wannabes will be there to take advantage of the expected crowds. Won't they?
The political weekend wraps with a casual Sunday social at the Hagåtña HQ of the steamrolling GB18 ticket. Carl Gutierrez announced former Chief of Police Fred Bordallo Jr as his partner in his race for a historic term and spun the race into high gear leaving idling tickets still sitting in the dust wondering, "wtf went wrong?"
With the Primary elections only 6 months away, and none of the people who say they want to lead actually, well....leading, Carl Gutierrez looks good for making history this November. On a one-man mission to revive, re-invigorate his beloved Democratic party, nonstop for the past two years, one person, one family at a time, all over the island makes it pretty clear who not only really wants this job, but is actually WORKING pretty darn hard, to earn it. Maga’Låhi material.
Buzz continues to swirl around the unexpected resurrection of the formidable Gutierrez/Bordallo juggernaut. But with work comes a time to relax...and that's what's going down with GB18 HQ. Family, friends, and supporters of Team Sunshine invite everyone, Democrat, Republican or just-not-sure, to come on down and enjoy a casual evening in the shadows of the historic government house and Angel Santos park.
I might add, the Sunshiners lay out a mean spread, so expect a a night of simple pleasures, really good food, friends, family and talk - one on one with proven leaders.
