Day 2 highlights from Gender Summit 11:
Today’s activities kicked off with amazing keynote speeches from the Minister of Status of Women Quebec as well as the newly appointed Chief Science Advisor of Canada, Dr. Mona Nemer.
Throughout the day, various sessions highlighted notable issues in the road towards gender equality namely the importance of including diverse perspectives in research, creating diverse senior leadership and corporate boards, discussions on factors that p...revent and/or encourage young women to pursue careers in STEM, addressing gender-stereotypes in non-traditional occupations and the importance of GBA+ in the development of programs and policies.
We once again heard from participants on the biggest challenge they think women face when pursuing a career in STEM. Their responses included stereotypes; lack of confidence and role models; as well as the difficulties in convincing people that diversity and gender equality is something we need to achieve.
Finally, we also had the opportunity to hear from students on how they envision the world of tomorrow and Canada in 2067.
