what an absolute mess - she should have known something was wrong the moment she’d noticed mark and his friends at the sermon. how many times had she asked him to come along with her? to just listen and give everything a chance - and he’d always said no. then to just stroll up to the sermon without so much as a text or message?
bowing her head, linny couldn’t keep the deep red of embarrassment from flaring into life across her cheeks.
‘ i wanted us to be a family again. i didn’t think he would do something like this. ’
you're the real favorite.
‘You can’t take it back now, brother. You’ve already stated JOHN was the favorite so i’m just supposed to take this on BLIND FAITH?”
YES. YES HE WILL. CAUSE HE LOVES JOSEPH
you're the REAL favorite.
“This is all bullshit.”
do you love them , john ? can you ?
As ᴀʟᴡᴀʏs, ᴛʜᴇ voice of his brother seems to come without any warning, and just the same, the taste of disappointment is so heavy in the air it’s nearly thick enough to be cut, with it’s implications settling down onto his skin, on his lips, his tongue, down his throat and finally, pulls into a tight ball inside his lungs that makes it difficult to breathe.
The smile, carried high before (the higher you raise your head, the easier your throat gets to be cut) fades when he turns to face The Father, when smugness leaves to make space for submission. Not an instant shift, but quick enough to almost count as such regardless, quick enough to leave no doubt on who was in charge in this conversation; who was in charge overall.
Oh, but this? He’s been trying so hard, but they make it so difficult on themselves, they have some sinister trapped inside them that needs to be pulled out from under their skin and if nobody else is going to free it so they themselves can be free of it, then it is just his duty to do so himself. Isn’t it his purpose to clean them? To take their sin, their past lives filled with rotten corruption from them? Is such not the calling of the Baptist?
Words to justify himself, however, fail, as often they do with Joseph, no matter how easily they slip over his tongue at any other opportunity. Like there is a lock on his tongue. (It’s called self preservation.)
"Of course I do, brother.“
Pausing.
"Some of them just make it so hard, but I’m — I’m really trying to regardless.”
(It is only a lie if you yourself do not believe into the truth, isn’t it?)

Uuuuh…I’m not sure actually. I think Staci just naturally comes to me for a lot of different reasons. But I think the easiest thing is that he’s a canon character with very little actual lore/backstory to him. So he’s very moldable and I can build him the way I want to without the worry of not following ‘canon’ or that someone is going to tell me I’m writing him ‘wrong’.
I’ve played a lot of characters in the past with a lot of content and backstory and shit to them and I’ve gotten shit for not following the correct ‘canon’ of the character or not playing them they way others WANTED me to play them.
So Staci is easier bc there really is no pressure since he had so few scenes but still enough of a character model/portrayal to give me a solid ‘outline’ of how he should be. It’s like I have the framework all I need to do is build the house.

I’m not sure, like, there really isn’t much too hard when it comes to Staci. I think what’s hard is that because he’s so easy and fun for me to write, I tend to favor him over my other muses because those other characters don’t come as easily to me.
Maybe a hard part is that I, for awhile and still do somethings, make Staci a bit too gentle and soft. I have to remind myself that by the end of Jacob’s land when you save him he kinda has lost his mind and does seem to be a violent force now, but when I write post-jacob stuff I still tend to give him that gentle side instead of a violent edge. Idk.

“What kind of man are you CHOOSING to be?” It’s a simple question aimed at the man across from him. The other seemingly a GOD fearing speaker of the bible. As someone that people call Jesus, he has no room for judgment other than the fact that the word of GOD is being used as an excuse for said unspeakable actions. Arms fold over his chest as lips are pursed in fine line. “You’re TRULY believe that you’re doing HIS work don’t you?”
