newt’s gonna try and write you a letter — accepting

          Tina,

     I found a nest of Occamy today, tucked away in a tree trunk. They reminded me of you, of that unfortunate incident we had in the rooftop of that department store — I’m sure you remember. 

     But everything reminds me of you. There’s an Auror I see going into work each day whose wand looks like yours. I saw a lady on the Muggle Underground last week with a freckle on her arm in the same place as yours.

     I miss you.

     I know that Picquery needs you in New York, and I know that the Ministry want to keep me close at hand so I don’t get into too much trouble. But it won’t be for much longer — the next edition of my book is due out soon, as you know. Which means I’ll be able to bring you a copy again. If that’s alright with you.

     Give Queenie and Jacob my best. I’m looking forward to having another of his Nifflers, they’re definitely my favourite.

can you talk about your headcanons for the end of the movie? did he remember? did he only remember a little?

I do think that he remembered something at the end of the movie, though not very much. It was very obvious when Queenie came in the door, he felt as if she looked familiar but he couldn’t exactly put his finger on it. The Swooping Evil venom used at the end of the movie is said to only remove bad memories, and many of the memories associated with magic for Jacob were good memories. Queenie herself is a good memory for him, especially the moment they shared in the rain. I don’t think he would immediately remember everything that had happened to him; that would be completely overwhelming. However, something about Queenie’s presence felt familiar to him. It would take numerous visits for his memories to come back, and they would first come to him in dreams like the creatures did. He’d be slightly overwhelmed by the return of his memories, but since they come back thanks to Queenie he would have someone to help him through that experience. 

Also, when his memories do come back, some of them are still missing. He doesn’t remember anything that happened while he was at MACUSA, because it was a somewhat scary experience for him. He also remembers little of what happened on the roof, because the explosions were related to magic but triggered his flashbacks of the war. There are specific things that the venom did truly erase, but most of what he experienced was good during the few days he got to spend with in the wizarding world. He’s aware of the gaps in his memory, and his friends try to fill him in the best that they can, but it still leaves him feeling kind of empty if he thinks about it too hard. The absence of some of his memories just reminds him that he’s never going to be truly like Newt or the sisters, and he tries not to think about it too often.

okay listen emi, you know i love you and you know i love your portrayal but like. honest to god, you understand tina better than anyone i've ever met. like you're probably number three on the list of people who understand her, right behind JKR and Katherine. You have put so much work into playing her, and you love her and care for the character so much. i honestly? aspire to play her as well as you do someday, and don't fight me on that because you are the supreme okay. i love you sm.

talk about jacob and his grandmother

Out of all of his family members, Jacob was closest with his grandmother. When he was 3, his mother and father came over to America with his grandparents and they all lived together in the same home. His grandmother was often the only one home with him, as the rest of his family had jobs that kept them out of the house for most of the day. Often, he helped his grandmother bake when he was a child, which is why he loves baking so much now. His favorite pastry to bake with her was paczki, which was a special treat they made on Christmas Eve. He left a few out for Santa, and even now he makes a batch on Christmas Eve in memory of his grandmother. He learned a few more recipes from her, including chrusciki and klotski cookies (which are big hits at the bakery). 

She died while he was in Europe for the war, and his family didn’t tell him until he was back. His mother wrote a letter to him, as they had moved from the New York area. Of course, there was nothing that he could have done, but he wishes he had sent a few more letters back to her before she passed. His grandmother always dreamed of owning her own bakery, but didn’t believe it was possible after they moved from Poland. So, Jacob’s dream since he was young was to open a bakery in her memory. When he finally got to open his own bakery, he hung a portrait of his grandmother in the back of the shop. Every day, he says good morning and good night to her, and the workers he hired for his shop often say hello and goodbye to it when they leave too.

Okay, but look I yell at you basically everyday now. This is our friendship. AND I LOVE GETTING TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT TINA. Like every time even if I’m lowkey nervous like “what if Reed suddenly decides I’m scum”, “oh god what if I AM scum”. And I love some much that we have a lot of the same thoughts and feelings regarding matters. I always feel so validated talking to you and it’s just n i c e because SOMETIMES I’m super insecure.

Then there you are and we talk and I just. I love getting to talk about Tina to someone who loves her obviously just as much as I do (and possibly more).And gets her. It’s just so great I’,M SO GLAD TO SCREAM AT THE WORLD ABOUT TINA WITH YOU REED YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

          “Enough, Theseus, I will not.”

     Newt stood, with his brother, near the back of the ballroom, doing his best not to be noticed by the crowd. Not an easy feat, given that half of the wizarding world’s royalty were currently in the room, and that title was extended to himself, by virtue of name. 

     Newton Scamander. Ministry Magizoologist. Not particularly high-ranking, on his own, but with his brother Theseus being a well-regarded Auror, and his father some important, well-endowed Ministry bureaucrat, he’d received a fair share of the attention.

     Attention that he didn’t want. He hated it. He was in New York on a research trip, not to DANCE.

          “Go on. There’s a room full of ladies waiting for your hand. I hear Kowalski’s very smitten with one of the Goldstein sisters, MACUSA, you know — look, there’s the other, sitting down over there.”

     Newt's eyes flicked over to the girl in question. An Auror-in-training, apparently — but she looked haughty, and unimpressed.

          “No. Dance with a lady who has obviously already been passed over by the rest of the room? I can’t think of anything worse.”
