Is there Life on Mars?
My last GDSP flashback! The rockstar set was my favorite innerself, stripped of circumstance, my little poverty house was romantic, my naked lightbulb a style, my complicated childhood and terrible adolescence a good story, something from before that formed value and made me into this me.
A gender ambiguous, magnetic rockstar, who wouldn't want all their troubles to add up to that?
GDSP, themes forgotten, but they add up to a time of loss. Much of my life has been loss, and what to make of whatever is left.
It would be impossible to even describe to you the experiences of that time. There was nothing for me in the world, everything slipped through my fingers as I struggled to find some ground to cling, some way up and out.
One time I asked the Appalachian granny that I found myself caring for, how she'd survived incredible, unimaginable things in her life. She said, "I guess I never thought of it. I just survived."
Here's a flashback to my GDSP days! The prompt was Noir.

What I learned today
See black and orange pic below. The order of layers and layer settings can have an effect in Photoshop. Try swapping around layers if you’re not getting what you want.
Paper manufacturers make color guides to show how ink looks on diff papers. Remember the blacklight color guide? Expand that!
Screens are printed at diff angles to reduce Moire Effect https://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/moire-effect . Relevant for that halftone filter in Illustrator
Mechanical pencils are cheaper in the long run
Twirl pencils on sandpaper for a sharp point
Gum eraser is the most delicate and works on ink without smudging it. A good one should be crumbly.
Flat brushes can be used for lettering? At least so it says
Consider using some scrap paper as a straight edge/eraser shield
A triangle is used in conjunction with a t-square to make angles
Not much super relevant info to design as it’s done today but a lot of helpful stuff for designing on paper and transitional art.
GDSP exhibit: call for participation
I want to take your picture, but you are so far away. We’ve never met, but it doesn’t feel like we are strangers.
Would you take a self-portrait (the picture I would take, of you, if we were together), and let me include it in an exhibit of all of the self-portraits that have been taken following the direction/description at http://mollybroxton.tumblr.com/post/14549957159/guest-directed-self-portrait-1-dir-molly-peck ?
The show opens March 8, 2016. Please be a part of it.
More details about the Guest Directed Self Portrait project can be found at guestdirectedself.tumblr.com (it’s easier to see the FAQ and all images for GDSP #1 in a browser, rather than in the app or from your dashboard).

Guest-Directed Self-Portrait #40, directed by @ellie-lane-imagery (“I love glancing in windows while out on the road, whether in the country, the city, or the suburbs. I’m forever fascinated by the anonymous lives lived behind windowpanes, or around the edges of doors. They make me feel less alone - more human, even - these stray images rushing by like film through a projector that’s sputtering to life. Show me what I’d see if I glanced into your window, or through a crack in your door as I passed. Would it be something beautiful? Shameful? Both?”)
