{ ☆ } Fenton has come to expect such things from Dr. Gearloose as well, and yet the other’s words still cause that good-natured smile to slip from his face. Brows furrowing and hurt flashing in hazel hues at the word ‘disappoint’. That one managing to cut deeper than being called a Fool. Something that he can’t seem to keep from doing to the other man, regardless of how desperately hard he tries not to. Although, the sharp ache that shoots through his heart is not merely for himself. It also pains for the chicken… Because for some reason or another, Gyro feels the need to (claim that he can) live without love.
Perhaps it’s none of Fenton’s business. It’s no secret that Dr. Gearloose doesn’t exactly… like him. As far as the duck knows, anyway. He doubts Gyro views him as anything more than a co-worker at best and an (idiotic) intern at worst. Despite how little the inventor might care for him, Fenton can’t help but care for Dr. Gearloose. Like it or not (he’s nearly certain that the chicken does not) the empathetic duck views him as a friend… and Fenton helps his friends.
“But… I am looking at you.” He responds, tone gentle yet insistent. Gaze riveted on Gyro, he silently prays his words won’t bring forth a burst of that feral anger he is unfortunately adept at accidentally coaxing out of him. “Dr. Gearloose, you are self-sufficient. Remarkably so… But-“ Fingers lightly tap against each other, “-you aren’t without love. There are plenty of people who care about you. Mr. McDuck, for example.” With how he constantly supports the scientist, despite the havoc (and expenses) his inventions often sometimes cause, Scrooge must care. “Li’l Bulb cares too... and Manny... and everyone on Team Science.”
Which, of course, includes FENTON. { ☆ }
