Most geckos don't have eyelids! Instead, we have tiny protective scales that need to be licked off occasionally.
Also! While most geckos are nocturnal, all geckos have vertical pupils that can overlap to a tiny slit, letting in only a pinprick of light.
This protects their eyes from harsh lights, even though they can't close their eyes!

Happy geckos are known to "sploot". They plop down extra cozy with all arms backward. This has been known to cause panic in humans.

Some geckos can asexually reproduce! And sometimes the babies are in fact, better off for it! For many species, asexual reproduction can cause birth defects and worse genetics. However, for some geckos, such as Heteronotia binoei, who are only female, asexual reproduction actually often leads to stronger babies!
Us cool little ladies bury eggs under rocks, logs, and sand. When the eggs hatch, they will be genetic photocopies of their mothers! And when raced against geckos of the same species who were produced due to sexual reproduction, scientists found these asexual daughters would be much faster and stronger!
Here is an excerpt from a paper on this specific type of gecko:
“We found that the parthenogenetic forms were much better athletes than the sexual forms, clearly outpacing them on the treadmill,” said Kearney. “This was a bit of a surprise because a similar study of another kind of parthenogenetic lizard from the deserts of the United States showed the opposite pattern."

Some geckos can "fire up" their colors! These geckos can change from paler colors to much more dramatic ones, and it has been theorized that this may be a method of communication or temperature regulation.
Generally, we will be "fired" when we are more active, stressed, or after being exposed to bright lights or warm temperatures.

Geckos store food and nutrients in their tails!
So while yes, we can lose and regrow our tails, it sucks to lose all that stored fat and nutrients. In fact, for some species, one way to tell we are happy and healthy is by checking we have a nice fat tail <3 no body shaming in the gecko community!
