In the history of Super Sentai there are very few villains as utterly loathsome as Dayu Usukawa (薄皮 太夫).  She is the definition of the woman scorned, having been in life obsessed with a man named Shinza who was not interested in her romantically.  Instead, he loved another and in a fit of truly evil malice she burned him, all of his loved ones and even herself alive at his engagement party. This act of suicidal evil corrupted her soul and turned her into one of the Gedou.  Even in death, she could not let Shiza be with another and she bound his soul to hers in the form of her shamisen, keeping him trapped with her in her fallen state for eternity.

Trivia

"Gedoushuu" translates to "heretic party".

The Sanzu River (三途の川; Sanzu no kawa), similar to the Styx of Greek mythology, originates from Buddhism. It is believed that the river is located in the desolate Mount Osore area.

There was a subgroup known as the Kusare Gedoushuu (クサレ外道衆) that was revived by Doukoku. They first appeared in the Shinkenger movie.  Remnants of the Kusare tribe, Azemidoro and the Kusare Nanashi Company, showed up in episode 31.

Batcheed of the Gaiark was a notable ally of the Gedoushuu in the Shinkenger vs. Go-onger movie.

Buredoran was originally Brajira from Goseiger.

The Susukodama may have been inspired by the dryads.

[poisonburden]

I realized something a few days ago. Not should if anyone else caught on to it yet. I started to watch Samurai Sentai Shinkenger and after seeing the fighting scenes with the Gedoushuu I noticed that the swords they used are the identical to the sword seen with Power Ranger Samurai's toy Deker. I don't know if this reveals anything. but its still interesting in my opinion.
