“Okay, you have two options. One, this mysterious blue liquid that has...” Chase peered into the cup with a furrowed brow “An orange slice in it,” he raised the cup in his other hand now, “Or, this cup of punch which is- Okay, I don’t know if started out as Sangria or whether somebody just put Anne’s fruit salad and a bottle of wine into a pre-existing drink but let’s go with Sangria, Crater Lake style Sangria,” he offered both cups to Geles to choose from, whichever she didn’t pick would be his own drink.

Between his sudden break up with Geles’, Tilly’s horrific revelation and the fight the two girls had had over God know’s what that had driven them to beat the crap out of each other, Chase had very much been keeping to himself. He’d heard bits and pieces of what was going on with Eric too but the jock hadn’t bothered to share it with Chase himself, so he’d decided not to bother with that either. People were selfish, cruel, he knew this much to be true, he just hadn’t expected so many of the people he cared about, loved even, to prove it to him first hand. To take his mind off of recent events he’d spent the hours after school swimming, trying to beat his record time. He’d been so consumed by the task, he hadn’t realised how late it was and rushed to leave, just in time to run into Geles in the parking lot, her car and his the only ones left in the otherwise empty space by the school. “Don’t worry, I’m not stalking you, I was swimming. You don’t even have to pretend you don’t see me, I’m leaving,” he assured her, in case she’d felt obligated to avoid him or worse, obligated to exchange small talk with him.

Chase would have been lying if he’d said he wasn’t half glad that Tilly had shown up when she did. God, he never thought he’d grateful for the presence of the devil herself but there she was, mere feet away with just a wooden door separating them, unknowingly granting him the gift of more time alone with Geles. He couldn’t tear his gaze off away from her, even the way Geles rolled her eyes at him was charming, in his opinion. His lips parted to speak but words had failed him before Geles offered him a drink. He simply nodded his head “I’ve never needed a drink more in my life,” he confessed, butterflies rampaging and rioting in his stomach as he spoke, the result of pure excitement and fear, an odd combination but he didn’t mind it. 

He accepted the flask graciously, slowly untwisting the lid so as to avoid making the slightest strange sound that might alert Tilly to anything unusual going on behind the closed door. He took an ambitious but not selfish swig, making sure there was enough for Geles too. “Thanks,” he said, voice still lowered to a whisper and eyes shifting between the girl in front of him and the door over her shoulder, as if Tilly might charge in like a raging bull at any given moment.
