Well... She is what she is, right?
Gemsona Design Challenge; Day 25 - draw a gem shard monster… Kornerupine!!
A crappy doodle of my gemsona Black Sapphire (“Jett,”). I’ve had her for a few years, but she never had a solid story until a few months ago. (**NOTE: This character has quite a few A.U.s that she is involved in, because I collaborated with one of my close friends. What follows is a very short summary of Jett’s story in her “original” story. Different stories may arise, and I will do my very best to explain them)
Black Sapphire facet 14KM cut 12DE didn’t emerge an “off color” but made into one. After constantly disputing with her comrades and former diamond (White Diamond) and the untimely leave of another sapphire, Homeworld went on a spree of trying to wipe out any gem deemed traitorous. Due to Black being herself, she foolishly plead guilty to all of her crimes and was sentenced to remain in a bubble until White Diamond decided what was to be done with her. She remained there for around five thousand years before they finally found a use for her; a sick, twisted experiment that involved taking very precisely cut pieces of her gem and replacing it with the petrified remains of a dragon-like creature from a planet conquered thousands of years ago. ( Each piece is cut to fit perfectly as to ensure that her form is stable)
When she reforms, she is just as shocked as the gems performing the experiment. They call for the strongest quartz soldiers to come and capture the monster that stood before them. When Jett tried to foresee a way out, she realized that she had lost her future vision. The soldiers arrived almost immediately and were just as shocked as the other gems in the room. Summoning her sheer determination to escape, Jett attempted to barrel through the gems but was stopped when one grabbed her leg. Some strange instinct arose in Jett, causing her to turn on the soldier and deliver a sharp bite to her shoulder. As the quartz screamed incoherent nonsense Jett made her escape out of the front door, taking care not to be spotted by any gems along the way.
She stuck around homeworld for a few hundred years, generally messing with the areas where rubies are housed (Eyeball tells of a one eyed demon who flies around terrorizing them, but no none believes her). When Black does return to Earth, it is not with any ill intent, it is to find the one gem she cared for, the one collegue she love, White Sapphire (facet 11XL cut 09AP). Sadly when she arrived at the spire she encountered the Crystal Gems, but they were under attack by a large, skinny white creature with curving antlers, and a single blacked eye with a glowing red pupil. Jett could do nothing but watch as the, now corrupted, love of her life was beaten and bruised until her form was destroyed. She was spotted by the one and only Garnet, who did little more than scare poor Jett, it wasn’t until she screamed “Please don’t shatter me!” that Steven jumped between her and the Crystal Gems.
Jett is never very trusting of any of the gems but Steven and occasionally Amethyst. She partially blames Garnet for what happened to her and Pearl distrusts Jett equally as much. Of course Steven would convince them to let Jett stay and she is given her official nickname. She ultimately decides that she doesn’t really want to stick around the temple much and leaves, but takes White Sapphire’s bubble with her. She remains on Earth but the gems are unsure of her exact whereabouts.
