Inktober Day 4: Freeze 🥶

While Dark Sapphire usually uses her Black Pearl to off those she doesn’t like, she’s certainly not weak herself, and she’s more than willing to use her ice powers on anyone who upsets her.

More Gem Labs content!

Gem Labs are where Gems from all Diamonds are employed to work together in their scientific endeavours. Since these Gems rank pretty high, they often have their own Pearls or bodyguards, and wearing a diamond insignia is pretty much optional because they have to work together.

Here we see Carnelian’s gang! Carnelian is cruel and incredibly emotionally manipulative. When he shows signs of depression because the Gems around him choose to leave him, Maroon Pearl tries to cheer his owner up but ends up betraying him as well, and poofs Carnelian. When Carnelian regenerates, he tries to manipulate Maroon Pearl back onto his side, but fails.

Maroon Pearl was in love with his owner, Carnelian, for the longest time. When he finally stands up to Carnelian and poofs him, he stores Carnelian in his gem and it continues to emotionally haunt him. It’s only when the Honourary Crystal Gems decide to shatter Carnelian (with Bismuth volunteering to do so), that Carnelian immediately regenerates. Maroon Pearl at last faces his fears and confronts Carnelian by fusing with Turquoise Pearl. They poof Carnelian and store him away from Maroon Pearl, and Maroon Pearl is able to look to the future and form a new relationship with Turquoise Pearl. He later calls Turquoise Pearl Turkey after Steven showed them what the bird looks like, and Turquoise Pearl calls him Rooney. 

Unakite is one of Carnelian’s experiments and very miserable about his condition. Carnelian took the information learned from Blue Tourmaline’s experimentation on (Eye Agate’s) Peach Pearl and (Dark Sapphire’s) Black Pearl and applied it to Unakite. Rather than heal Unakite’s cracked gem, the cracks formed along his back around his gemstone, and now whenever he’s angry, he morphs into a giant monster. Unakite may have been shattered. Bismuth was Carnelian’s bodyguard and also one of his experiments. She doesn’t have a right arm (her gemstone is where her shoulder ends), but Carnelian’s experimentation on her means that not only can she forge weapons, she can form a lava arm that becomes armour. The armour can encase her whole body and is also very hot to the touch, making her into a very efficient fighting machine. She escapes Carnelian into the Honourary Crystal Gems before Maroon Pearl does, and is one of the Gems trying to get him to leave his owner.

This image popped into my mind while I was working and I just had to draw it haha. And hey, more Gem Labs content! The angry little Onyx is mine (I could imagine him burrowing into his mentor’s coat and hissing at anyone who tries to get close to Beryl haha), and the golden Beryl belongs to @cereal-forks!

More Gem Labs content!

Gem Labs are where Gems from all Diamonds are employed to work together in their scientific endeavours. Since these Gems rank pretty high, they often have their own Pearls or bodyguards, and wearing a diamond insignia is pretty much optional because they have to work together.

Here we see Amblygonite’s gang! Amblygonite is one of the nicer Gems, but he is now missing after having created an artificial Gem, which became his apprentice, Divinite. Some have speculated that Divinite poofed or shattered his own mentor to move higher in rank, especially since Divinite is so apathetic.

Glass Pearl was originally Ambylgonite’s, and let his owner do experiments on his limbs that would eventually lead to Divinite’s creation, but now without Amblygonite, he has been transferred to Divinite and now has no confidence but carries depression with him.

Night Blue Pearl was always Divinite’s, and is herself pretty distant and cold. This is because she knows how hard things are for Pearls, so she turns her emotions off to be the best Pearl she can be. Perhaps someday she and Glass Pearl can teach each other if they get closer; she could teach him confidence and he could teach her feeling.

I drew two entries for #derspearlcontest! This is 2/2.

This is Peach Pearl, an older Pearl of mine! Peach Pearl is part of the Gem Labs, where scientific Gems work together and experiment/study planets. Peach belonged to a Blue Tourmaline who uses his own Pearls for experiments (he had two Peach Pearls). This particular one was the one who had to suffer tests that turn the Gem into a monster, studies based on corrupted Gems. The experiment was evidently not a success; Peach Pearl glitches out a lot and isn’t in control when transformed. Blue Tourmaline regardes Peach as a failure, and gave the Pearl to his apprentice, a defective Eye Agate, instead. Peach loves and is thankful to Eye Agate for being such a good owner, but despite their trust in each other, Peach tries to hide this monster side. Eye Agate would of course understand, but Peach is too scared to say anything.

Blue Tourmaline did actually continue his experiments, and he ended up succeeding! If you swipe right, you’ll be introduced to Black Pearl—the perfected version of what Peach was supposed to be.

And there’s also Peach’s owner, Eye Agate. Phew! This was a VERY long description haha.

Ow mY EYES I felt like practicing digital art despite a lot of things on my to-do list telling me otherwise asjakfl, and this time I tried doing something new! A lot of experimenting haha. 

Also this is now the eighth or ninth time I’ve done a digital drawing asjakfl. Let’s see how long I feel like keeping track lol. 

So here’s a drawing of Pink Zoisite, from my Gem Labs thing! I did draw a thing with her in the past (as shown below), but her colour scheme really didn’t fit the one in my vision so I mucked around a LOT with the colours today. Finally settled on something I liked. x’D 

Pink Zoisite’s Squad

Gem Labs is where scientific Gems work for the Diamonds with similar rules to medicine cats in Warriors (eg you don’t have to show as much loyalty to the Diamonds and can interact more freely with other Gems from other courts and exchange info a bit more freely. Even wearing the diamond insignia isn’t completely necessary - it’s still technically required, but most Gems treat it like an option!). Pink Zoisite is a scientist! ❤

Description: One of the more happy and welcoming Gems in the labs, Pink Zoisite is known for being very kind, but in a sort of scary way. She is almost always smiling and speaks with a warm tone, but it never feels exactly like real sweetness, often probably veiling an underlying threat or judgment in some way. Her rank is fairly high, but she is not one of the higher-ranking Gems of the Labs. Whether or not she can work her way up and earn a Pearl is to be seen, but it’s not clear whether or not she even cares. While not cruel, Pink Zoisite has little feeling for the more unfortunate Gems in the Labs, as she doesn’t care for those she deems weak. She is more than willing to perform any kind of experiment, some of them being more sickening and twisted, but that’s perfectly okay with her - as she’ll always do it with a smile.

Gemstone Appraisals

The gemstone trade depends on gemological laboratories partnered with sophisticated equipment because gemstone identification. But you might be surprised to know that even the best gem labs can't tell them how much a gemstone is expedience.
