it doesn’t occur to steven how strange this statement might seem — how peculiar or out of the blue . if it did strike him as odd , he wouldn’t care .
he crosses his legs on the beach as the two sit on the edge of the water , just far enough away that , as the waves lapped up the shore , the water didn’t quite reach them . he doesn’t meet lapis’ gaze .
