That was the catch, wasn’t it? No one touched me because of my title, and I had that to blame for not knowing myself as well. I was an Alpha’s daughter first, a princess second and child of the moon third. I could only be my own person fourth.

Stella has always said it was good to be afraid. But I’ve never been afraid. Alec has always made sure of that, and he’s almost always been by my side. But right now—standing alone beneath the moonless sky—I can’t seem to understand what my best friend finds so exhilarating about this feeling.

Lena isn’t sure she wants a mate. Aiden can’t seem to figure out whether he has a heart. Jesper is sure he doesn’t have a soul, but that doesn’t stop the worry that he might lose the only thing he cares about.
GEMINI IS A PACK FULL OF STRENGTH.
Selena Parker knows this. She’s always known this. Just as she knows her father is proving a Head Alpha can be both feared and loved. But then the whispers began.
REBELLION IS ON THE HORIZON.
Thrown into a spiral of declared love, broken promises and spilt blood, Lena has to claw her way back to stable ground if she wants to save everyone in Dagwood. If she wants to live long enough to choose between good and bad.

I try to walk away. No running. Not this time. Just a break to clear my head. Aiden reacts by grabbing the back of my neck. His strong hand rips me back until we’re chest to chest. My breath catches in my throat, right beside my heart. They’re lodged together and killing me. Just like this lack of space between us.
I can feel the sparks and hear his rapidly beating heart and strangled breathing. I can smell him, see him, touch him. The shining moon reflects in his eyes. They carry a promise. A serious note I’ve yet to see from him.
Aiden leans down to breathe his hot, mint scented, breath against my cheek. After dragging the hand not holding me in place across my collarbone, he whispers, “If I fall for you, Selena, would you fall too?“
My lip trembles and eyes widen as they can’t tear themselves from his face. A spray of freckles across his nose and cheeks. I shake my head, unsure.

Then, Jesper speaks again. "She is quite beautiful, no?”
His voice is thick and strong, deep with mystery. How someone so intimidating can spark something in my stomach is shocking. What the hell is wrong with me?
Jesper takes a step forward and I’m frozen, allowing him to run a single finger down my cheek and trail to my neck. He halts at my collarbone and meets my eyes. Then he leans in to whisper, warm breath smelling of mint and engulfing my ear.
“How do you think he'll feel knowing I touched his girl?"
☼ Excerpt Three ☼
“How do you know?” I ask him after finally taking a breath. “How did you figure out that Harper was the one for you?”
“It was easy.” He replies. “I just knew. She’s the one I want in my arms when it’s two in the morning or three in the afternoon. When it’s raining heavily or too cold to do anything but lay cuddled together. It’s her. Always has been, before I even noticed, and always will be long after I’ve forgotten.”
“I stopped believing in fairytales a long time ago. I don’t think this is mine.” I admit, eyes drawn to the mediterranean style architecture of the Kidd mansion. The terra cotta roof, white painted stucco walls, and arched window and door frames. ”That’s why I need your help.”
“With what?”
“Killing him.” I reply, tugging Alec towards the intricately carved front door. “Duh.”
i love marcus kidd more than i should love a character i wrote myself 😶
When the smell of coffee travels up the stairs but Aiden has yet to return, I decide to go searching. I cross the sun warmed wooden floor in socks, bunched at the ankles from sleep, and attempt to finger comb my mussed hair. I’m descending the rather large stone staircase when attempting to press the wrinkles out of my borrowed shirt. It’s easier to give up, I decide with a huff. Aiden’s tee hangs down to my upper thigh anyway. Couple that with his sweat pants and it doesn’t exactly scream I’ve Been Up For Hours.
As I nearly run into Marcus Kidd, I realize my outfit does seem to be screaming something. Right in his face, actually. His eyes scan my tossled look with a knowing grin. All while my apparel seems to say I Just Rolled Out Of Bed With Your Son.
“Oh!” I catch his mug before it can spill over onto his newspaper. “Good morning.”
“Good morning to you too, Lena.” He heads past me and I release a sigh of relief. Until he casts a look over his shoulder, conveying I should follow.
So, I do.
We head to his office, through the heavy double doors. When I enter I notice two things. One, it looks the same as yesterday. And two, the air in here is different. It’s heavier. The decisions made at that desk hold power. The purpose of the Alpha weighs on the chest of anyone who enters. I take a deep inhale, getting a whiff of the fresh flowers on the desk.
“Can I get you anything?” Marcus asks as he settles into the couch Conrad sat on the day before. “Coffee? Tea? Have you had breakfast?”
I smile at his paternal ways. I’m suddenly struck by the realization of why he’s so caring. He had an empty maternal space to fill. For Aiden, for his pack. Most importantly, for himself.
“Aiden’s already on the job.” I move to sit across from him. “He’s apparently not very good at it, though. He disappeared in search of waffles and coffee almost fifteen minutes ago.”
a little info on Selena’s father because i don’t think i’ve posted much:)
Fortunately, my mother and Colson spend as much time in the kitchen as a chef would. Even if my father is actually the best cook in the house, they’re the ones always making the family meals.
Fortunately, my mother and Colson spend as much time in the kitchen as a chef would. Even if my father is actually the best cook in the house, they’re the ones always making the family meals.
I do wish, though, my father would flex his skills a little more often. The only time I can convince him is on very specific occasions. Not a birthday, or holiday, but when I’m so sad I can’t leave my room. When the only cure seems to be midnight pancakes. Or when he’s stressed to the point of no sleep. When all he can really do is whip up an old Parker family recipie, chili or pasta.
hi i’m back :) sorry for the disappearing act! i’m trying something different with the excerpts, lemme know what you think. here’s some Selena + Aiden 👀
as usual, transcript (and full excerpt) under the cut!
“Can’t wait until you fall asleep in my arms every night and wake up to my kisses every morning.”
“Can’t wait until you fall asleep in my arms every night and wake up to my kisses every morning.”
Aiden’s voice startles me so much that I flinch. I’d focused so hard on the sounds outside the window, on the singing birds and breeze rushing through the ajar door, that I’d forgotten the head on my chest belonged to someone. To Aiden.
I watch his dark blue eyes shift to meet mine. His even darker eyelashes obscure the view of those shining irises. Forcing a smile, I push my fingers back into his hair. It’s soft and fluffy, almost like a freshly dried towel.
“That’s your first thought when you wake up?” I chuckle quietly. More of an exhale of breath through the nose.
“Yes.” Aiden runs a finger down the length of my jaw, eyes trailing as well. “Why? What was yours?”
“The first thing?” I pretend to think deeply, pointer finger pressed to my chin. He starts laughing before I even get it out. “Does the Spring Colony have waffles?”
thank you to the amazing @josephinegerardywriter for the tag :)
my words are season, height, break, and look. from Gemini:
season
“People of Grey Moon! Please remember who we really are. A people that thrives on togetherness.” Marcus begins. “We only divide when it benefits us all. We break apart the seconds to better remember the good memories. We name our packs, a different one for each Colony. Our seasons don’t divide the years but the people.”
height
“I’m being kind,” Aiden explains, gesturing to his expanse of body. A chiseled jaw, strong chest and defined arms. His legs are long, making up his towering height. Still, this doesn’t make up for that horrible personality. “Why would I want to deprive anyone of this?”
break
“I’m going to have to break your neck. Sorry, just the messenger.”
look
“No—No!” I glance back and fourth between Holden and Jesper. Still in disbelief from watching my brother’s friend knock Jes onto the ground, I say cautiously, “Why don’t you tell me what you think you did?”
“I saved you.” Holden huffs, out of breath from the swift run and tackle. He looks at me, astonished that I disagree. “I was saving you.”
“You don’t need to save me from Jesper. You honestly need to save Jesper from me.”
Aiden makes eyes at anything that moves, until he only has eyes for Selena.
Jesper is supposed to be evil, yet he’s protecting the girl opposite his side of the war.
