The story of Gemma Celestine, the main character in the Gemma AU of Pokémon Horizons, and my OC who is in an OC x Canon ship with Liko called TeraGem

Gemma Kimiko U'ilani Hoshizora-Celestine (long name I know) had an entire gym challenge adventure in her home region of Kalos before the events of the series when she was 10

Before that, when she was 5, her parents had given her an Eevee to keep her company since they were always working with the Aether Foundation's Kalos branch

They ended up dying in an accident involving Mega Evolution energy, but Gemma was just too young to fully grasp the gravity of the situation, plus her parents weren't around much anyway

Anyways, after her journey, when she was 11, she joined the Rising Voltacklers

During her first adventure with them in Alola, she encountered a shiny Zeraora battling a Pokémon she had never seen before (Guzzlord) and helped fight it off with Zeraora with the help of her Sylveon and Mega Salamence (who two aces)

Zeraora was badly injured, so she and Friede (who was with her at the time) brought it back to the Brave Olivine so Mollie could help it

Over the course of the next few days, Gemma just sat in the medical room until Zeraora eventually woke up, and agreed to let her catch it

Since then, Zeraora just kind of hung around the Brave Olivine, occasionally going with Gemma when she needed its help, or leaving to go train

When Gemma was 12, the Rising Voltacklers went back to Kalos, and Zeraora suddenly ran off

Gemma thought it'd come back, but it never did and she assumed it got bored of her, but she kept its Cherish Ball just in case

In reality, Zeraora has sensed its Mega Stone, and went on its own journey through Kalos to find it (she wouldn't see it again until Rising Hope when the crew was in Levincia, but that's another story)

Reminder that all this happened BEFORE THE SERIES

Now for during-series stuff

Gemma also took the Terastal Course with Liko, Roy, and Dot, but she battles Kofu and Tulip

For whatever reason I haven't figured out yet, she never uses Mega Evolution during the pre-timeskip Era, so she exclusively uses Terastilization from the Tera Training arc onward

In Laqua, her Salamence helped fight back the Laquium affected Five Heroes with Rayquaza, but was accidentally exposed to the mist from Galarian Moltres, and thus was affected itself

The last thing it focused on was Gemma shouting its Name, since she saw it happen, so it began chasing the group

Eventually, after Liko loses Lucius' belt and journal, Salamence catches up

It's about to attack Liko when Gemma pushes her out of the way and badabing badaboom she's got three scars across her eye and no vision in that eye

Salamence, having seen the damage it caused to its trainer, locked itself in its Dream Ball and refused to come out for any reason (Blueberry arc is when this gets resolved but I don't have the full story planned out yet)

After the Rising Voltacklers disbanded, Gemma, not feeling like going home to Kalos, decided to stay with Liko and her family since Liko's parents offered

At some point they both start going to Indigo Academy, and even though Gemma is letting her hair grow out, she's noticeably less depressed than Liko about the Laqua Incident by the time Roy comes to visit them

This is because her coping mechanism is shutting herself away until she's accepted what's happened (and also bottling everything else bothering her up afterwards)
