A project headed by Lesley Miller and Uwe Derksen, with the aim of immersing our retired communities, ‘The Elders’, in performance, craft and social interaction.
‘The Elders’ name was chosen to show they have wisdom and gravitas. Though this demographic lacks visibility in our contemporary societies. The same generation who fought for such things as visibility and feminism.
Why should they be left out?
The collaboration of professionals and ‘Elder’ communities took place in UK, Poland, Denmark, Greece and Italy.
The ‘Elders’ participated within performance and craft disciplines within groups, learning, sharing, storytelling, singing, dancing and creating. The invisible became visible and the project was a success for all involved.
Validating the methodology of artistic craft disciplines being integrated into a topic or issue, in an intriguing, positive way. The professionals involved learned how to collaborate internationally in a multi disciplinary way. The importance of documenting and recording the process to assist in future interventions, celebrate the success and share it’s value as an international co-creative exchange.
A future project - The Edge will look at how we can reach out to each other.
