The Long, Sordid History of My Eye Color, or Why I Turned to Colored Contact Lenses

So I guess I should start at the beginning.  I never thought my eye color was anything special, being the only hazel-eyed person in a family where everyone else had light green eyes.  My eyes had a brown circle around the pupil and a green rim on the outside.  So the overall look was hazel in daylight, light brown in dim lighting.  The eyes in my profile banner picture are mine, before I ever used latisse.

Then one day I decided to try latisse to grow my eyelashes longer.  Of course I had heard the warnings that latisse could turn blue eyes brown.  But a couple of my friends had used it with no problems, so I figured hey why not.  Lo and behold, a few months after starting on latisse, I looked in the mirror and noticed the green on the outside rim of my eyes was completely gone!  The brown around the pupil had spread and turned darker, and now my eyes were a muddy brown color!  Oh my god, you would not believe how much this changed my entire look!  Considering I never had really green or blue eyes to begin with, it was shocking what a drastic difference this made.  And I realized that with eyes, it’s not so much the color that is important, it is the lightness!

So began my search for the perfect colored contact lenses to give me my old look back.  I googled desperately, researched, and watched YouTube videos to find which contact lenses to try.  Surprisingly, there was not a lot out there.  Most of the brands for dark eyes are from Brazil or Italy, so finding information in English was not easy.  And that’s why I’m starting this blog.  Hopefully I can help someone else save countless hours of time and money researching and buying the various colored lenses from Solotica, Desio, and Air Optix Colors.

But if you don’t want to read any further and look at the photos, here is the quick synopsis - my go to colored contact lens is the Air Optix Colors in Gemstone Green. Why?  Because these are the most natural looking on me & the closest to my original color.  They are not circle lenses but have the effect of making my irises bigger, and they have a nice, defined limbal ring (very important, you will find out).  The pupil hole showing the natural brown color blends nicely too.  Here is  a pic of the Air Optix in Gemstone Green:
