When going to the ancient temples in Egypt, you will amazingly find that some of them still have some of the colours still intact! The fact that they used the local gemstones ground into paint and dye to do this is what makes it all that more magical. That is actually how paint was traditionally made worldwide, even for oil paintings in Europe and the USA. You can still obtain these types of traditional paints today, but they tend to be quite expensive (depending on the type of stone used to colour them), as well as difficult to find. I just make my own most of the time.
The only thing is that regular oil paints take a month to dry after you have completed the painting! The quick drying version, which I did try once only took 2 weeks lol. I have also used acrylics with the ground minerals in them, but it’s just not the same! I find that painting with these types of paints is very strong when painting talismans, paintings of Deities, or other magical symbols.
One thing which folks tend to forget is, it doesn’t matter if your painting or drawing is as amazing as the ancient Egyptian temples, or Dali, but that is no reason not to still create magical paintings. I have found that it’s more about the mindstate, focus, intent and materials used than the physical perfect looking painting.
